BEFORE INSTALL
Our Drawstring Ponytails are made from 100% unprocessed virgin human hair. Before installing your wig:
- Co-wash the hair using a moisturizing conditioner (unless coloring immediately – see Coloring).
- Comb or brush the hair gently with a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush, starting from the ends and working your way up to the weft.
- Rinse the hair thoroughly and squeeze out any excess water. If time permits, allow the hair to air-dry instead of using a blow dryer.
During the initial co-wash, you may experience some strand release. Strand release is the detachment of loose hair resulting in some excess shedding, but this is normal and will subside after that initial wash.
DETANGLING YOUR HAIR
We recommend combing your hair while wet. Detangle from the ends and work your way up to the wefts. Remember to comb gently to avoid excessive shedding. If starting with dry hair, spritz with water and follow with a curling custard, defining cream, or curl mousse.
Scrunch your hair with your hands to allow the wave pattern to set. Once dry, finger comb to add additional volume.
APPLYING HEAT
Our Drawstring Ponytails are made from 100% unprocessed virgin human hair and can be curled and straightened. However, just like your own natural hair, heat can cause damage and result in loosened curls that do not revert to their original pattern. If you need to apply heat, always apply a heat protectant and never exceed 350 degrees.
COLORING
Curlkalon’s 100% unprocessed virgin human hair products, like our Drawstring Ponytails, can be dyed and bleached to any custom color. If you are applying bleach to the hair, we always recommend going to a professional stylist to avoid damage. Note, like your own natural hair, bleaching the hair can cause dryness and shedding and shorten your ponytail’s lifespan.
LIFESPAN OF YOUR HAIR
The lifespan of your Drawstring Ponytails will depend on the aftercare. With proper care and maintenance, our ponytails can last you 2+ years! Take care of the hair by keeping it moisturized with leave-in conditioners, avoiding excessive manipulation, and using protective products like heat protectants. Always exercise gentle care when combing or brushing. Remember, like your own natural hair, using too much heat or shampooing too frequently can dry out your ponytail and cause damage or breakage.
When going to bed, we recommend removing your ponytail. However, if you want to keep it installed, always make sure your hair is dry before bed. Always sleep with a silk or satin scarf/bonnet or use a silk/satin pillowcase.
